Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the level of haemoglobin among pregnant women in the Ittefaq Trust Hospital Lahore. There were two groups. One group included 20 women in the 2nd trimester, and the other group included 20 women in the 3rd trimester. In the 2nd trimester, 65% of women had low blood pressure, 20% had normal blood pressure, and 15% had high blood pressure. In the 3rd trimester, 70% of women had high blood pressure, 15% of women had normal blood pressure, and 15% of women had low blood pressure. The other parameter was the nutritional status of the pregnant women. Seventy-five percent of the women in the 2nd trimester had a low nutritional status, whereas 60% of the women in the 3rd trimester had a low nutritional status. The emotional status of pregnant women was the third parameter. Eighty-five percent of women in the 2nd trimester were stressed, whereas 75% of women in the 3rd trimester were stressed.
Method: The purpose of our study was to assess the level of haemoglobin among pregnant women during different trimesters. We visited the Ittefaq Trust Hospital Lahore and collected blood samples from pregnant women who were in different trimesters. Our questionnaire included questions related to blood pressure, nutritional status, hemoglobin level, emotional status and weight gain. Anaemia is a relatively normal finding in pregnancy.
Conclusion: Hemoglobin levels vary during pregnancy. Different parameters, such as nutrition, education and emotion, affect haemoglobin level, so we concluded from our research that haemoglobin levels were low in the second trimester and high in the 3rd trimester. Anaemia is very prevalent worldwide and occurs mainly during pregnancy.
Results: A haemoglobin level during pregnancy can be naturally lower than 10.5 g/dl, indicating normal anaemia during pregnancy.
