A NEW SPECIES OF ACANTHOCEPALA, CENTRORHYNCUS JAMSHOROENSIS N. SP, FROM JUNGLE BABBLER; TURDOIDES STRIATUS: (AVES, PASSRIFORMES: LEIOTHRICHIDAE) OF JAMSHORO, SINDH, PAKISTAN

Abstract

During present study 18 birds were randomly collected from different areas of District Jamshoro, Sindh Province. 10 host were infected with acanthocephalans which were recovered from gizzard and intestine of Jungle babbler Turdoides striatus; new species of Acanthocepala, Centrorhyncus jamshoroensis n. sp, Family: Centrorhynchidae Van Cleave, 1916, Body of worm is elongated, medium size, proboscis cylindrical, armed with 11 longitudinal rows contain 12- 14 hooks with elongated proboscis receptacle, Lemnisci elongated two in number and found lateral to proboscis receptacle. Testes spherical, tandem, median and contiguous.Cement glands tubular and four in numbers. Present species differs from its congener in shape and body size, number of longitudinal rows of hooks, number of hooks in each row, size of proboscis receptacle and lemnisci and size of testes. Therefore, it is identified as Centrorhynchus Jamshorensis n.sp.This study making new locality and new species of Sindh, Pakistan.
