Abstract

Background Wearing high heels is linked with Q angles and risk of bunion deformity. Female office workers are affected due to prolonged use of such footwear. Existing studies suggest a biomechanical relationship between altered knee alignment and foot deformities caused by high-heeled shoes. Objective To determine the relationship between bunion deformity and Q angle in high heel wearer females. Methodology This cross-sectional study was conducted on 80 participants. Data was collected from female workers with unilateral hallus valgus deformity at al rafay foundation by using non probability convenience sampling technique. Measurement was done by using Manchester scale for bunion deformity and goniometer for measuring Q angle. Result The findings showed the mean age of 28.51 ±6.90 years. The Q angle measured using a goniometer ranged from 5.30° to 24.70°, with a mean of 14.59 ± 5.61°. Based on Q angle classification, 22.5% of participants had a decreased Q angle (<10°), 35.0% had a normal Q angle (10°–15°), and 42.5% had an increased Q angle (>15°). Regarding bunion deformity, 30.0% of participants had no deformity, 10.0% had mild, 28.7% had moderate, and 31.3% had severe deformity. A statistically significant association was found between bunion deformity and Q angle category (Chi-square test, p<0.05). Conclusion Based on these findings it was concluded that there was a relationship between bunion deformity and Q angle in high heel wearer females.
