PREVALANCE OF TRANSFUSION TRANSMITTED INFECTION AMONG HEALTHY MALE BLOOD DONOR IN DISTRIC SKARDU, GILGIT BALTISTAN, PAKISTAN

Abstract

This research was conducted to assess the prevalence of transfusion-transmitted infections (TTIs), including Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Syphilis, and Malaria, among healthy blood donors in Skardu, Baltistan. A total of 1400 healthy blood donors were examined using the Immuno-chromatographic technique (ICT) at the Regional Blood Center RHQ Hospital Skardu Baltistan from 26 August 2022 to 26 August 2023. The findings indicate that HBV is the most prevalent than other TTIs among healthy blood donors in this region, with a prevalence rate of 0.49%. This study underscores the importance of rigorous donor evaluation and screening procedures to enhance recipient safety and minimize the transmission of TTIs during blood transfusions.
