Abstract

This study addresses the challenges in the prenatal diagnosis of congenital syndromes associated with ocular anomalies and visual impairments in preterm infants. A collaborative, interdisciplinary methodology is emphasized, integrating advanced prenatal imaging techniques, genetic testing, and comprehensive ocular examinations. The research highlights key findings related to the early detection of conditions such as Down syndrome and retinopathy of prematurity, which significantly impact clinical management and parental counseling. Results indicate that timely and accurate prenatal diagnosis, coupled with early orthoptic assessment and intervention, can optimize visual outcomes and improve the overall quality of life for affected individuals. Specifically, the investigation into premature infants reveals a higher prevalence of visual acuity deficits, refractive errors, and strabismus, necessitating prompt treatment to prevent amblyopia and encourage normal visual development.
