MULTIPLE EXTENSIVE COMPLEX ODONTOMAS OF THE JAWS

Abstract

Odontomas are odontogenic tumors found within the oral cavity and consist of dental components such as enamel, dentin, cementum, and pulp. Because they are benign and usually asymptomatic, they are most often detected incidentally during routine radiographic examinations. Reports of odontomas erupting into the oral cavity are relatively uncommon. A review of the English-language literature identified only ten documented cases of erupted compound odontomas. The present report describes an unusual case involving multiple, symptomatic, erupted complex odontomas of exceptionally large size affecting both jaws and extending into the maxillary sinuses in a 22-year-old female. Clinical assessment and radiological investigations, including conventional imaging and CT scanning, demonstrated a markedly large radiopaque mass with a density comparable to enamel or bone, occupying both jaws and both maxillary sinuses. A provisional diagnosis of odontoma was established and later confirmed through histopathological examination. The lesion, along with the associated sinus lining, was completely surgically removed. The postoperative recovery was smooth, and no recurrence has been observed.
