Abstract
Objectives
The study aimed to assess the level of knowledge regarding infection control standard precautions and its association with socio-demographic characteristics.
Methods
The analytical cross-sectional design was used. The research was conducted at Jesus Mary Institute of Nursing and Male College of Nursing, Sindh Government Hospital Liaquatabad Karachi, Pakistan. The targeted population comprises of undergraduate nursing students. Non-probability convenient sampling technique was used to select sample, the sample size of 166 participants was calculated using open EPI software, independent t test and ANOVA were used as statistical test to find out the association among difference variables.
Results
The results of current study revealed that 15.7% of nursing students had good knowledge, 81.9% of nursing students had moderate knowledge and 2.4% had poor knowledge. Significant associations were found between age, gender, academic year with knowledge of infection control (p= 0.001, p = 0.041, p = 0.005).
Conclusion
The current study concluded the majority of nursing students had moderate level of knowledge.
The overall knowledge of nursing students is found to be satisfactory; the teaching and training workshops should be regularly conducted to enhance the knowledge of the nursing students
