Abstract
The present study investigates the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation exercises on improvement in general cognitive functions in patients with stroke. Using a Quasi experimental research design, the study selected a sample of individuals with stroke. A sample of 40 individuals with stroke were chosen from various government and private hospitals of Lahore. The participants were randomly assigned to two groups (experimental group n= 20 & control group n=20). General cognitive functioning was assessed from Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE). All participants in both groups were assessed on MMSE to assess their level of cognitive functions at pre and post intervention level. In this study, only the experimental group received cognitive rehabilitation intervention, which was focused on enhancing cognitive functions. Findings from Paired sample t-test analysis showed a significant improvement in general cognitive functions at post assessment in the experimental but not control group. The implications of this study have been discussed with reference to culturally relevant evidence-based rehabilitation approaches, offering meaningful insight into the rehabilitation process for families, practitioners, and clinicians.
